Why a sauna is planned in advance

Trying to "fit" a steam room into a finished house not meant for it risks major mistakes. Fixing a miscalculation on paper is far cheaper than rebuilding walls and services. By setting the sauna into the plan early, you secure three things.

1. Fire safety

A built-in steam room demands strict compliance with fire codes. The project sets out non-combustible materials for the structural walls around the sauna, correct fire gaps, fireproof insulation around the heater and heat-resistant wiring in protective conduit.

2. Ventilation and moisture control

A sauna inside the house must not breed damp and mould in the adjoining rooms. The engineers build in:

A dedicated supply-and-exhaust ventilation: a separate duct quickly removes humid air and brings in fresh — vital for a healthy microclimate and safe breathing during use.
A sealed vapour-barrier loop: foil-faced materials reflect heat back into the steam room and fully block vapour from entering the walls and floors.

3. Power and the flue

A modern heater needs resources. For an electric heater, a three-phase supply (380 V) and dedicated load are provided in the overall electrical design. If a wood heater is chosen, a solid flue is integrated into the plan from the start, with a correct roof penetration and pass-through details.

Ergonomics of the spa zone

Everything close: the steam room sits in one complex with the shower and bathroom — no walking across the house to cool down.
Next to the service zone: the sauna is placed by the boiler or laundry room, which streamlines the pipework and uses the home's heat more efficiently.
Out to the terrace: the rest room can join the living room or open straight onto a covered terrace.
