Aerated concrete house plans — the warmest masonry walls, reinforced by design

Aerated concrete is the warmest of masonry materials and one of the fastest to lay. This category gathers projects where the aerated- or foam-concrete walls are properly worked out: from block thickness to reinforcement.
Aerated concrete or foam concrete
Aerated-concrete blocks are made of foamed cement mortar, precisely cut and cured in kilns. Foam concrete is a similar material but sets without baking and is cut after hardening, so a foam block has worse geometry than an aerated one. We use both with a bearing capacity of at least 500 kg/m³, grade B20.
Wall thickness by storeys
Block thickness is not arbitrary. For small single-storey houses a 300 mm block is allowed; for houses from 80 m² we specify a 375-400 mm block. This is what governs both warmth and the wall's bearing capacity, so it is calculated for the specific house, not an average.
Why a reinforcement belt is needed
A warm wall only works with proper reinforcement. Aerated concrete requires reinforced-concrete belts — the project includes detailed instructions for making them. Foam concrete needs the foundation cushion reinforced — the project has reinforcement sections with specifications. Without this, even the warmest block will crack.
