A standalone bathhouse or sauna on the plot is a self-contained complex for relaxation, wellbeing and entertaining guests. A separate building takes the hot steam, humidity and specific loads fully out of the home. The catalogue gathers bathhouses of various sizes — from basic ones with a steam room, washroom and rest room to versions with a covered terrace, barbecue and pool.

A different energy profile from a home

A bathhouse has different requirements from a permanent house. It runs periodically, so there is no need to keep a constant temperature. The structure is designed so the steam room heats up in minimal time and holds the heat for 4-6 hours — whether it is deep winter or summer heat. This lets the wall thickness and insulation envelope be optimised, cutting material and foundation costs without losing strength.

Timber frame or aerated concrete

  • Timber frame: its low weight allows a lightweight pile-and-grillage foundation even on difficult soils. Sandwich walls with mineral wool heat up instantly, saving wood or electricity. Construction takes a few weeks, with no shrinkage.
  • Aerated concrete: solid, non-combustible, immune to rot, insects and rodents, and a visual match for the main house. The precise block geometry gives fast laying and a monolithic, durable building for decades.

Critical engineering details

  • Fire safety: a correct flue passage through floor and roof (sandwich pipes, thermal-insulation boxes), fireproof screens by the heater (mineralite, soapstone) and proper ventilation gaps.
  • The "thermos" effect: the steam room is lined with aluminium foil that reflects infrared heat back into the room and blocks vapour from reaching the insulation and walls — so the frame or aerated concrete stays dry.
  • Air circulation: a well-planned supply-and-exhaust scheme (e.g. the "Bastu" system) keeps fresh air flowing to the heater and gently removes spent steam, with no stagnation or odours.
  • Water drainage: in the washroom and steam room, floor falls run to siphon drains with a dry trap, which cuts off sewer smells and removes water quickly.
