What problems do heating systems have? How to improve the heating system of the house and hot water supply.

We often encounter a situation where our customers have a need to analyze the operation of heating.

This occurs when the heating is mounted without a project or additional elements are introduced into the working system.

Common problems:

•     radiators are incorrectly selected

in some rooms it’s hot and in others it’s cold, attempts to adjust with mounting taps increase the load on the heating equipment and do not bring the expected effect. It is usually corrected by remaking or re-adjusting the system.

•     Incorrect placement of radiators

their efficiency decreases, there is a lack of heat. It is solved by reconnection.

•     The heating unit does not match the radiators

•     The boiler is selected without calculating the heat loss of the building.

A case from the practice of a heating system:

Initially, there was a house with a gas boiler. Its power, as usual, is selected with a margin. After the reconstruction of the house, its area increased one and a half times.

Plumbers crashed into the old heating system and added two more branches.

As a result, heat was no longer enough for the old part of the building.

The client decided that for proper heating, a solid fuel boiler should be installed.

To calm our conscience we were called.

What happened?

In connection with the introduction of new branches, the balance was disturbed. There was an abundance of heat in the new part of the house (since there was no provision for temperature regulation on the radiators; residents opened windows), in the old part of the building this heat was not enough. Although, according to the calculations, the boiler capacity should just be enough for the house after reconstruction. The owner planned to install an additional solid fuel boiler to heat the old part.

To solve the problems, we recommended the installation of an automatic three-way balancing valve.

And to save energy, install a weekly programmer with remote radio-controlled thermal heads on each radiator. To insure against severe cooling, it is possible to install a heat accumulator with a heating element. It will be connected at night and will heat the house at night with electricity.

The complex of such events will not only provide the house with the necessary energy, but also bring savings of 20%

The cost of implementing these measures is 25% less than the cost of a solid fuel boiler. And we still did not consider the cost of its binding and its further maintenance.

We described only one of the proposed solutions.

In the event of similar situations, we recommend that you consider the object more comprehensively.

Recommended Action Plan:

Conduct a comprehensive energy audit of the entire building and engineering.

Develop a program to reduce energy consumption starting with the least costly solutions.

Assess the payback period of each event and the economic effect.

And after that, a comprehensive approach to improving the home as a single structure.

 After all, systemic solutions give a much greater effect than the sum of the activities carried out separately.
